A closer look at Garthwick, one of five finalists in the 2021 GRAY Awards Residential Interior Design category.
Garthwick
This home, located in the Garthwick Neighborhood in Portland, was originally built in 1935. Twenty-five years later it was remodeled by architect Richard Sundeleaf, and in 2015 it underwent yet another renovation. When the homeowners wanted an interiors refresh, they called on Donna DuFresne Design to help maintain the home's original vintage charm while creating an updated environment that promoted healing, comfort, and sophistication.
Throughout the home the firm employed a neutral palette with pops of color and texture. The juxtaposition of soft, organic materials like boucle and mohair paired with black Calacatta marble (found on the fireplace) creates an intriguing collaboration. The use of the client’s antiques paired with rich, contemporary materials like cerused wood cabinetry, guides the eye and allows a smooth transition from room to room.
