Mutuus Studio

Chef in industrial restaurant kitchen

Mutuus Studio is a Seattle-based architecture and design firm that prides itself on crafting nuanced and forward-thinking projects that range from residential and commercial architecture to interiors and product design.

The name Mutuus (moo-tus) is the Latin word for "mutual / exchange" and it reinforces the studio’s philosophy that design is inherently collaborative and mutually beneficial.

The three founding partners—architect and musician Jim Friesz, architect Kristen Becker, and artist Saul Becker—each contribute a unique vision to the firm’s multifaceted design mission by drawing on their diverse backgrounds to inform their work. They believe that the interaction between various disciplines allows them to find new ways of seeing, and thus creating, things.

An integral part of the studio is Mutuus Made: a specialized arm that offers exclusive and one-of-a-kind pieces to clients. From lighting and hardware to art objects and specialized materials, each custom element is crafted with the intention to further enhance the stories being told through the interiors and architecture projects that the firm takes on.

Mutuus approaches each of its projects with a sharp attention to detail, while carefully managing the number of projects that it takes on in order to provide focused service, and plenty of time, to each one of its clients.
