HAY Opens First North American Store

EXCITING NEWS OUT OF COPENHAGEN: DANISH FURNITURE AND ACCESSORIES BRAND HAY HAS CHOSEN PORTLAND’S PEARL DISTRICT AS THE SITE FOR ITS FIRST-EVER NORTH AMERICAN OUTPOST. The 3,400-square-foot store, which opened Thursday, November 15, stocks the retailer’s clean-lined furniture, textiles, kitchenware, and plans to host events and collaborations to tap into PDX’s creative community.

The opening of the Portland store represents the first step in an exciting journey for us. We share Portland’s affinity for craftsmanship and creativity, and we welcome customers to HAY Portland to explore our designs in this new environment. —HAY cofounder Rolf Hay

Located at NW 13th Avenue, the store will neighbor Design Within Reach—another prominent modern design shop that just last year moved into its bigger, two-story space—and will feature original brick detailing and a soft, white palette (Design Within Reach’s parent company, Herman Miller, acquired 33% of HAY this past June). The brand’s shelving and storage system New Order, a collaboration with German designer Stefan Diez, will house product and separate the different areas of the store.

“Just as excited as we are to introduce Portland and the broader American consumer to HAY’s offering, we’re equally excited to connect with and learn from this new audience,” Hay said.

Also, earlier this month, the brand launched hay.com, its inaugural dedicated e-commerce platform.
