GRAY Magazine Announces the Winners of the 2017 GRAY Awards Design Competition

SEATTLE, WA — November 30, 2017 — GRAY Magazine is thrilled to announce the winners of the 2017 GRAY Awards—a cross-disciplinary, design awards program.

Designers and manufacturers were invited to submit design projects across ten categories plus an “editors’ pick” Design for Good category. An esteemed panel of international design stars—including Philippe Starck, Ingo Maurer, Deborah Berke, Karim Rashid, Vicente Wolf, James Corner (Field Operations), Roman Alonso and Steven Johanknecht (Commune Design), and Olivia Kim (Vice President of Creative Projects, Nordstrom)—worked with the GRAY editorial team to select a winner from each category.

GRAY Award winners were revealed last night at the design event of the year at Seattle’s prestigious new event space, The Sanctuary, designed by Philippe Starck in concert with Daniels Real Estate and ZGF Architects. Breaking all the rules of traditional awards programming, GRAY surprised attendees with a splashy big reveal, with all the judges announcing the winners on video, a live performance by the band Smokey Brights, and the debut of a special gold-leafed December/January Awards issue, presented with great fanfare and a surprise appearance by the University of Washington Marching Band.

Amidst a glittering shower of confetti, winners received a custom contemporary glass art trophy, handcrafted exclusively for the GRAY Awards by the critically acclaimed Seattle artist John Hogan. Winners also received a press kit from GRAY Award media partner v2com, distributed to its international database of journalists.

GRAY is also thrilled to share that with 50% of the party ticket proceeds, as well as generous donations from attendees, it was able to donate over $13,000 to the event charity partner, the BLOCK Project, a non-profit program founded by architects and dedicated to alleviating homelessness in Seattle.
