ARCHITECT BRIGITTE SHIM TO JUDGE GRAY AWARDS

SEATTLE, November 21, 2023 — GRAY Media, LLC, announces Brigitte Shim has joined the judging panel for the 7th Annual GRAY Awards.

Together with her partner, A. Howard Sutcliffe, Brigitte Shim is a principal in the esteemed design firm Shim-Sutcliffe Architects. Their collective body of work explores the seamless integration and interrelated scales of architecture, landscape, and furniture, while their diverse portfolio spans projects for non-profit groups, as well as public and private clients. Notably, Shim and Sutcliffe have been honored with fifteen Governor General’s Medals and additional awards for their architectural work from the Royal Architectural Institute of Canada, and an American Institute of Architects National Honor Award, among other professional accolades.

Brigitte Shim has held the position of Professor at the John H. Daniels Faculty of Architecture, Landscape, and Design at the University of Toronto since 1988. Her role encompasses core design studios, advanced design studios, and various elective and undergraduate courses in the History and Theory of Landscape Architecture. In 2019, she assumed the esteemed title of Louis I. Kahn Professor of Architectural Design at Yale University’s School of Architecture. Throughout her career, she has contributed as a visiting chair and lecturer at renowned institutions such as Harvard University’s Graduate School of Design, The Cooper Union, and the École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne.

In recognition of their outstanding contributions to architecture, Shim and Sutcliffe were awarded the Order of Canada in January 2013. This prestigious honor was bestowed upon them "for their contributions as architects designing sophisticated structures that represent the best of Canadian design to the world."
