Art meets function in the Brush Table, Calen Knauf Studio’s most recent launch.
The deceptively sturdy occasional table by Calen Knauf Studio, available in two sizes, resembles a giant scrub brush. Circles of wispy bamboo broom bristles radiate from the center of the surface to form the base, which creates a structure strong enough to sit on. The tabletop is waxed ash with a bullnose edge.
“The menagerie of active and subconscious thoughts manifested by this table is what I am after,” says Calen Knauf, designer. “There is nothing more satisfying than assuming something like the Brush table might feature steel legs shrouded by decorative brush and then finding out it is bristles through and through.”
Calen Knauf is a Canadian designer based in Vancouver. He studied Industrial Design at Emily Carr University of Art and Design and went on to win Best Student Lighting for his thesis project Standard Lamp at Design Plus 2014 in Cologne, Germany. His first produced design was licensed
