WHEN NOT FILLED WITH LEAFY STEMS, IT HELPS TO HAVE A VASE THAT LOOKS GOOD ON ITS OWN AND ADDS TO YOUR ROOM’S ATTITUDE. Portland’s The Granite makes contemporary home accessories and jewelry and has won us over with its Epoca vase in the colorful Aggregate pattern. “The pattern is based very loosely on an image I took of broken clay bits and pieces on the floor. When I was working on creating the pattern I wasn’t quite satisfied with the way it was coming out until the clay pieces became neat rectangles,” says Meg Drinkwater, cofounder of The Granite. “Once the pattern was multi-colored, it reminded us of aggregate surfaces and building materials, hence the name.” With an unglazed, hand-painted porcelain exterior, and Terrazzo-like pattern, the Epoca is just the thing to zhush up an open shelf in the kitchen or become the focal point on your coffee table.
