Report from nyc: duravit design week
October 13, 2015 / Online Exclusive
In concert with GRAY’s current Kitchen and Bath Issue, GRAY’s dispatched its associate editor, Nicole Munson, to the Empire City to attend Duravit Design Week and to celebrate the launch of Duravit and Axor-Hansgrohe’s newest collections. Here’s the report from Nicole.
DAY 1
After landing at JFK airport, I headed to Duravit’s showroom on Madison Avenue, where I hobnobbed with the company’s U.S. president, Tim Schroeder. This guy is clearly passionate about plumbing, and after a tour of the brand’s latest designs (many by French architect/industrial designer Philippe Starck), it's clear that incredible thought and innovation goes into every piece designed and produced by the 200-year-old German company.
Day 2
Past Chelsea Market is the Axor Design Studio, German-based company Hansgrohe's glossy Meatpacking District showroom, for a press conference debuting the new lines designed by Italian architect and furniture/industrial designer Antonio Citterio: Axor Citterio E and the Axor Universal Accessories Collection. Philippe Grohe, head of Axor, joined Citterio to explain how precise German engineering is hidden behind the sleek faucet exteriors, mixing and molding the water into the perfect temperature, stream, and flow.
DAY 3
I hit The High Line and ABC Carpet and Home before heading back to Seattle where, naturally, it was raining. The energy and unadulterated creativity of a city like New York is enough to continue to inspire you long after your trip.
You can find Duravit and Axor-Hansgrohe in Oregon and Washington at Ferguson. In British Columbia, Duravit is available at B.A. Robinson, while Axor-Hansgrohe is available at Bartle and Gibson.
