a sneak peek at filson's upcoming women's collections

At Filson, Seattle’s oldest outdoor clothing manufacturer, product design has always been overwhelmingly masculine. Not a surprise, given the company’s history—founded during the Great Klondike Gold Rush, Filson’s roots are grounded in 120 years of producing durable garments and goods for harsh outdoor activities such as mining, fishing, hunting, and timber harvest. In 2008, the company launched its first line for women—but eight years later, it’s still best known for menswear. The brand is now looking to change that perception, expanding its womenswear line and infusing the collection with a softer, more refined look. That doesn’t mean that spring anoraks will suddenly be issued in bright pink, nor that classic wool sweater will sport bows. In the words of Aude Tabet, Filson’s Director of Product Design and Development, “Filson women’s clothing is not girly, it’s feminine.” Quality, as always, is paramount: details such as smaller needlework, lighter colors, and softer patterns are executed in the same durable fabrics as the men’s line.
