Interior Design Show (IDS) Vancouver returned to the Vancouver Convention Centre West with a rich program of installations and presentations. The international exhibition featured products, furnishings, and designers who discussed process, collaboration, environmentalism, artificial intelligence, and more. Among the displays, we were captivated by the use of mustard and gold color palettes. Here are a few of our favorites:
GOLD STREAK
At GRAY Studios, Montauk Sofa featured the Dawa rug. Hand-knotted and made in Kathmandu, Nepal, the rug uses Tibetan Highland Himalayan wool and Chinese long-strand mulberry silk in a Tibetan 150 knot.
GOLDEN ANNIVERSARY
2023 marks the 50th anniversary of the iconic Togo chair. Designed by French designer Michel Ducaroy for Ligne Roset, the Togo debuted in 1973. At IDS Vancouver, Livingspace featured a public square in the center of the showroom floor lined with corduroy Togo chairs in mustard yellow.
THE MIDAS TOUCH
Hastings Bath Collection featured Vola taps at their exhibit space and they were featured at the New Product Runway Show at GRAY Studios during the opening night party. The taps, by legendary Arne Jacobsen in 1968, are not just faucets but pieces of design history.
SKYGAZING
In the Canary room at GRAY Studios, we featured Rollout wallpaper's "Skygazing," customized in shades of yellow. Originally white and gray, the pattern was inspired by FormNation principal Jan Habraken's move from New York City to the Island of the Gods (Bali).
NATURAL RESOURCES
Cascarā exhibited their bio-textiles in the Studio North section of IDS and at the New Product Runway Show at GRAY Studios during the opening night party. The textiles, a study in natural residue, are perishable and were designed to examine potential uses of this delicate, short-living material.
THE GOLDEN RULE
IDS x Obakki Design Incubator, an initiative designed to mentor and support young Canadian talent, featured Montreal-based Cyrc who produce ethical, climate-positive, zero-waste home goods such as these 3-D printed vessels made of recycled plastic.
MAGIC MUSHROOMS
Montauk Sofa brought the mustard home with their pattern-on-pattern exhibit flooded with the debut of their Magic Mushroom upholstery on the Lewis daybed and ottomans designed in collaboration with Atelier Dimo, and round-end Antoine sofa.
